In the digital creation and culture getaway 2018 edition we participated creating a collaborative project called “Gimcama in the forest”
The project consisted on an outdoor workshop based on space exploration and inspired by the geocaching game.
For this purpose we developed a web app (a web application designed for mobile) with geolocation that allowed people to participate in teams.
The game had two stages, the first one when the participants (organized by groups and identified by a name) hid at the locations chosen by them the “caches” (in this case all were cards with a code, where the participants had to do a drawing and leave a message)
In the second phase of the game the application went to “discovery” mode and it was about finding the maximum number of caches hid by the other teams. In the same application the classification was updated in real time.
Once the time was finished, the team that had scored more points would won.
To make the webapp we chose open source options. First of all, we wanted to be a webapp not a native app, for simplicity of development, but also why we believe that whenever possible a web is much better than a closed application .
For the map system we chose leaflet , and standard geolocation broser libraries . The development framework was CodeIgniter (php) on a mysql database
All the code is published in github
